EDUCATION

On this page you can read some of my favorite work I have created throughout my college experience. All of my classes have prepared me in more ways than I could have imagined. I have learned developmental theories, how to communicate to all types of people, and much more. The items I chose will give you a closer look at how I have prepared myself to become a victim advocate and future Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner.

FAMILY IN CROSS-CULTURAL PERSPECTIVES

The course, Family In Cross-Cultural Perspectives, prepared me to work with all types of people. We learned about cultures not only around the world, but in America. I wrote my diversity statement at the end of the year. It is a reflection of what I learned in the course and about the importance of understanding diversity. This class prepared me to be successful in the field of victim advocacy and nursing because I am now more aware of the difference in cultures and how to respect people even if their views are different than my own.

ENGLISH COMPOSITION II

I have always enjoyed English courses because I love to write and the freedom of research. During this course, English Composition II, we wrote a paper about any social issue of our choice. I decided to write about sex trafficking as a whole. A one stop read that gives a clear overview of all aspects of sex trafficking. This course helped me learn to research in an efficient way. This will be applicable to my future goals because I will constantly need to research and stay on top of the news on sex trafficking. Sex traffickers are constantly evolving and it is important to stay up to date in order to save victims.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND ETHICS

The course, Professional Development and Ethics, taught me a lot about myself. The paper I have attached is a personal analysis from the personality tests we took. Because the career path I have chosen can be tough emotionally, these tests assured me that I will be able to handle it. My personality draws me towards helping people and I am able to empathize with a victim without getting unhealthily attached.

APPLIED RESEARCH AND EVALUATION METHODS

Applied Research and Evaluation Methods was the most difficult course in my college career. We learned to look at programs and asses if they were successful or not. I chose to evaluate a program that taught women sexual assault resistance. This course was beneficial to me because I can apply what I learned when choosing where to work. I can evaluate an organization and see if they are producing the results they advertise. I also learned a lot about what actually helps keep women safe and what are unnecessary parts of some programs.

PARENT EDUCATION

I did not think this course would be very beneficial to me because I do not plan on working directly with parents. i was excited when we got to write our research paper about the adolescent rather than the parent. I have attached my paper that discusses the effects sexual activity can have on an adolescent. This was extremely beneficial for me to learn because a lot of the victims I will work with will be younger. The young brain is extremely impressionable and sexual activity can have extreme consequences. This information will help me when I am working with victims because I can understand that their thought processes are still developing and a trauma affects that process. This will aid me in speaking to them and helping them find the therapy they need.

DEVELOPMENT OF INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Development of Interpersonal Relationships was an incredibly beneficial class because I learned how to communicate effectively in professional and personal situations. My reflection I attached is a look back on what I learned throughout the semester. I acquired the tools I need to communicate appropriately in different situations with different people.
